Healthy Eating For Mums, Made Easy

Let’s face it - healthy eating isn’t easy.  Combining a hectic everyday routine, staying balanced and raising children is exhausting and our health often gets left behind. It’s easy to slip into snacking habits and reach for a takeaway when life gets overwhelming - we’re only human, after all! However, little changes to your habits can have a huge impact on you and your family’s life. And since life is all about balance, you can live healthy and still find room for your favourite takeaway now and then. 


Set realistic goals

Change doesn’t happen overnight. We’ve all been that person who starts a new habit only to be disheartened when we’re not seeing results straight away. Just stick with it and trust the process - it’s worth it. Perhaps start by switching sweet treats for healthier snacks (more on that later) or going plant-based for one meal a week. The hardest part is starting but after making that first step, the second one is always easier.


Add more fruit and veg

Yes, it’s a cliche but it’s a cliche for a reason. Fruit and veg are excellent sources of vitamins, minerals and fibre which are essential to the body’s health. Who would have thought it? Try replacing that afternoon biscuit with a banana. Or slip more veg into your chilli (a great way to get the kids to eat more veg too, by the way).


Reduce your sugar intake

We’re sure you and the kids just love a sweet treat. However, cutting your sugar intake helps your energy levels and is beneficial to your whole body, from the heart to the liver. That way, you can save the gooey brownies and chewy cookies as a real treat. Now we’re hungry!


Don’t skip breakfast

Eating a full first meal will fill you and the kids up with energy, setting yourselves up right to help conquer a day at  work, school or doing daily errands.  Plus it helps to reduce your appetite throughout the day so snacking and pangs of hunger are far less likely.

When you hear ‘meal prep’ you’re probably thinking of bland, boring chicken and rice. But meal planning? Now that’s exciting. Knowing what’s for dinner each day is the perfect way to ensure the family is eating a balanced diet whilst making dinner time more varied. But it’s also a huge stress reliever and a great money saver. That’s a triple win!
